
A photograph by Albert Renger-Patzsch from 1941. I found one of his photographs in a book called 'Icons of Photography; The 20th Century"; edited by Peter Stepan. I was much taken with a sister photograph of the one shown above called Beech Wood 1936. I couldn't find a copy of this photo on the web but found the one above, which has much of the same look. In the Beech Wood 1936 photo the wood has a stately structure, a stillness which I responded to. The trees are dark and planted solidly in the ground. The photo was also printed with a tone (gold?), unlike the one above, which I think added to the richness of the B&W tones. Also shot on a misty day, nice even light all the way through.
