. . . and the first print competition

Enjoyed the act of printing and mounting my first submission to a club print comp. Here is the photo:

1/160 sec @ f5.6, ISO 80, fixed zoom, Canon G9

This is a picture of two people inside an art installation which was set up outside the Hayward gallery. Part of an exhibition of artists on architecture. Not a very good exhibition overall but I did like this piece. The installation was a large plastic sphere under positive air pressure and visitors could go upstairs as well as down, which is how I came to take the picture of course.

I called it "Where Angels Fear to Tread", which tied together the main parts of the image I thought; an ironic comment on the two people who were obviously not angels, looking somewhat unsteady and a bit grubby, with no shoes on, and disappearing into the ether in the lower left corner.

Unfortunately it was the lower left corner that the judge felt let down the image overall. He did get the title, which was nice, and there was generally favourable hand waving about the two individuals, their orientation and colour combination with the blue sky on the upper right, but he described the lower left corner as an abyss, and commented that it was featureless. Being featureless was a big sin for the judge and he picked up quite a few submissions on this point over the night.

Not sure how ether is meant to look. Ah well . . .
