Next Level

Next Level is a magazine that I subscribe to. Originally attracted by the high production values I am now starting to question its approach. It is no longer clear to me that they seek to make the images the main focus of the magazine, instead giving more space to the accompanying writing and loads of white space. Images can get split across the central spine, and always lack captions even where, in one recent case, the artist's captions were described as essential to the presentation. I guess I am seeing the typical magazine editor's take that the magazine's format and design is more important than the content. It is all getting irritating - I shall not renew I think.
