Project 29

The final exercise of the section on elements of design asks that we put together a set of photographs that show a number of effects from the previous exercises, grouped around a single subject. I chose flowers and plants.

1/10 sec @ f8, ISO100, 60mm (macro), Canon 20D
Represents a single point that dominates the composition. I think this works while retaining some interest in other parts.

1/125 sec @ f5.6, ISO100, 180mm (macro), Canon 5D

Two points: I looked to get two daffodil buds, with the primary one in focus and the secondary just out of focus, to create some dynamism in the image.

15 sec @ f22, ISO100, 60mm (macro), Canon 20D

Many points arranged in a shape: here, obviously the central part of a flower.

1/100 sec @ f11, ISO250, 28mm (zoom), Canon 5D
a combination of horizontals and vertical: here the verticals being supplied by the tress and the horizontals being supplied by the fallen log and the shadows across the foreground.
1/4 sec @ f16, ISO100, 70mm (zoom), Canon 5D

Diagonals: I chose a single diagonal, a fallen log in the autumn leaves of Westonbirt

1/60 sec @ f11, ISO400, 30mm (zoom), Canon 20D.

Curves: a fallen tree whose branches have touched the earth. Converted to B&W in LR.

1/125 sec @ f8, ISO100, 24mm (zoom), Canon 20D

regular shapes: to my mind the crown of this tree formas a nice parabola against the blue sky.
1/100 sec @ f8, ISO100, 33mm , Canon A710
implied triangle 1: a simple composition of three fallen logs that create a triangle in the mud.
2 secs @ f11, ISO100, 55mm (zoom), Canon 5D

implied triangle 2: three flowers in close proximity to give a dense triangle. I was experimenting with still lifes.

1/4 sec @ f16, ISO100, 50mm (zoom), Canon 20D

rythmn: A moved camera while taking pictures of trees in a wood.

5 secs @ f16, ISO100, 60mm (macro), Canon 20D

Pattern: the patterns of a flower covering the image.
