Winter pigeons

The original of this photo (see below) had mixed reviews, people seemed to respond positively at an emotional level, or dismissed it out of hand at the technical level due to a lack of detail. I thought it might improve things if I was to make it smaller in the frame, which then led me to contemplate the appropriate background. So far so good, but the image then had a rather sharp and uncompromisingly stark edge to it in the middle, so I mangled things up a bit, just to break up that edge. Not sure I have ended up where I thought I would, but an interesting journey.
