Can find double exposure technique (preferred for Intaglio) can be very senseitive to changes in exposure time so test strips vital. Initially try and keep exposure times for screen and transparency the same but can vary to create different effects.
Transparency and screen must sit flush so cut away any excess so that they are smaller than the solarplate. (Aquatint screen is expensive!) Also eliminate any warped edges.
Prepare developing tray, no hotter than 78F.
Suggest using screens generated by software from Linotype Hell. (cannot find such software)
Aiming to creat shallow grooves for intaglio so 1-2 mins for washing. With experience can see grooves forming while washing. Give plate final rinse, blot, hair dry, post-expose in sun for 5-20 mins. Can leave for up to a couple of hours.
To test pressure and alignment of plate use uninked plate covered with blotting paper to evaluate impression.
Cover plate with ink using scraper, work into grooves. Work ink into plate with used tarlatan, constantly wiping the surface of the plate with circular motion. Once most of the ink is removed you can continue with clean tarlatan. Finally use old telephone book paper to use flat of hand to give final wipe.
Registration sheet: Mark outline of paper on newsprint and mark where you want image to appear, then place on bed of printer under solarplate (?).
Paper should be slightly damp but not too much so. No surface sheen. Can soak half the paper the day before then store in plastic bag interleaved with dry sheets, following day all will be damp.
Can vary the relative times for screen and transparency. More time for the screen will give darker more contrasty image, less will give lighter image with more midtone.
